-
Developed the CleanRight proof of concept leading to a major strategic partnership and pilot program.
2020 - 2022
HEAD OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
HyperSpectral APD - Los Angeles CA

Co-Founded innovative AI Health company focused on detecting pathogens by applying machine learning to hyperspectral data.
Assembled and directed a multi-disciplinary team of a dozen staff. Team included: data scientists; optical, electrical, mechanical and network engineers.
Pioneered the development of a novel diagnostic testing device resulting in a patent portfolio of over a half dozen patent applications.
Researched and implemented new technologies to detect a wider range of pathogens in a wider range of samples.
Successfully deployed a dozen diagnostic devices in four locations during clinical trials.
2016 - 2020
CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER
Augmenteum - Pasadena, CA

Founded an augmented reality company focused on using augmented and virtual reality to enhance education and training of staff.
Architected and launched a cloud training platform with a medical device provider to train medical staff resulting in over $300k in revenue.
Directed a team of a half dozen engineers and coordinated with offshore content development companies.
Designed and built a real-time, multi-user augmented reality cloud platform.
Invented a wide field-of-view head mounted display for augmented reality using a novel active control system architecture. This original approach achieved best in class performance with a remarkable field-of-view exceeding 120 degrees.
2004 - 2015
SENIOR OPTICAL ENGINEER
Jet Propulsion Laboratory - Pasadena, CA

Successfully delivered a wavefront control system capable of high scatter correction and presented the results to the NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC) committee resulting in a phase 2 award.
Spearheaded the development of a high-fidelity image simulation toolset that contributed to JPL’s success on several projects with external reimbursable customers.
Transformed the Structure, Thermal, Optical (STOP) modeling process at JPL by integrating multidisciplinary models together using a single software framework. This resulted in an order of magnitude improvement in analysis time by creating a single automated model.
Introduced the optical vortex coronagraph to NASA for terrestrial planet detection. This technique approaches ideal performance and is now widely used for planet detection.
